Taking its title from a broadside ballad dating to the seventeenth century, this raucous romp through historical tales deals with discord between the sexes. For as long as there had been marriage, for as long as men and women have shared a home, there has a been a battle being fought for dominance over the household.
Sometimes a delicate dance for power between them, sometimes all out war!
Are men really the strongest? Are women really the gentle sex? And who is the cleverest….?
Professional storytellers Maria Credali and Dave Tonge use traditional tales woven together with irreverent banter to explore that age old question – who should wear the trousers?
A thoroughly entertaining and thought provoking show, full of mischief, laughter and sensational storytelling!.
(Can be performed in traditional costume by request)

Q and A “Tudor Tales” with author, storyteller and historian Dave Tonge MA and Maria Credali, BSc
(60 – 75 minutes, depending on audience questions)
We know much about the lives of the richer Tudors, but what was life like for the ordinary people? The working class, or common sort, as they were called at the time…
During the research for his book, Tudor Tales (The History Press), author Dave Tonge examined the court records from the consistory and mayoral courts of Norwich during Tudor times. He also examined the stories found in the chap books and gest books of the time, which were common entertainment for the masses, being read aloud in taverns and inns as well as at home in private. Using these sources, Dave is able to paint accurate and fascinating pictures of what life was really like for ordinary people in Tudor England.
Storyteller Maria Credali will ask all of the questions you’ve always wondered about, but just in case you have a burning question of your own, there will be time for questions from the audience too.
“A vision of Tudor times even more vivid than Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall!”
